I always get super excited when anyone reaches out to me for a session of some kind. I bloody love this medium and the excitement it brings and i love being able to share that with people. This maternity session with Marlia was very much that. Her friends reached out to me, wanting to surprise her with something fun to remember this time in her life. I was extremely happy to oblige.
I’m not sure if it’s just that my kiddos are a bit older now or i miss being pregnant, but photographing beautiful round bellies is quickly becoming one of my favourite things. Maybe it’s the anticipation of what’s to come and for myself, thinking back to that time in my life. Looking back, how i wish i had my belly photographed. I will happily settle for immortalising you beautiful mamas in light.
For our session I wanted to keep it super simple, with all focus being on Marlia and playing with the light. We pegged up a neutral toned linen sheet to some twine, wrapped around a couple of trees in the backyard. I sourced the most beautiful vintage wooden stool and reached out to RocknRosie to create something magical with bleached and dried florals, keeping with the minimalist theme. Charlotte’s amazing! I’m obsessed with the bouquet she put together. It even smells like honey. So dreamy!
If you’ve got some time, you can also check out another lovely motherhood session here. This time it was during a stunning Dunedin sunrise on the Otago Peninsula.
